Insider tips around Lake Wolfgang. Active holiday or relaxation. Everything is possible, nothing is mandatory.
Summer activities - Our insider tips...
You probably already know this: Lake Wolfgangsee is home to three towns: St. Gilgen, Strobl, and St. Wolfgang. The lake lies in two Austrian states – Upper Austria (St. Wolfgang) and Salzburg (Strobl and St. Gilgen). It is impressively framed by the Schafberg, the Zwölferhorn, and the Postalm. The Salzkammergut region is considered Austria's 13th state, is well-developed for tourism, and offers a diverse range of vacation experiences, both in summer and winter. Whether hiking, cycling, water sports, cross-country skiing, or downhill skiing with cozy mountain huts – you decide exactly what you want to experience on your vacation. A packed calendar of events on the water, on land, and in the air makes Lake Wolfgangsee worth a visit any time of year. Below, we've listed our highlights of activities and hidden gems, and we welcome your feedback.

"Gschmå" is a typical word for the Salzkammergut region, hardly used anywhere else. It means: cozy, friendly, beautiful, entertaining, pleasant. When everything is just right, then it's simply "gschmå." At Lake Wolfgang, guests can now experience in a special way what this term expresses, thanks to the elaborate "Gschmå-Platzl" project: the most relaxing rest areas in the most beautiful locations.

Winter activities
Winter holidays are an Austrian specialty. This includes white slopes, steep hills, and lively après-ski. These are the standards. But what makes winter even more beautiful can be discovered with a little imagination and plenty of Wolfgangsee.
There are many ski resorts, some larger than the Salzkammergut region, some that are chic and really "in" and therefore overbooked.
You'll be hard-pressed to find more beautiful ski resorts than those around Lake Wolfgang. Many of the upscale ski resorts are overpriced, overcrowded, and incredibly stressful – and then the winter fun ends right there on the slopes.
In the Wolfgangsee region, however, the luxurious extras begin away from the slopes, offering a wealth of opportunities to make the family winter holiday truly magical.
Wolfgangsee's winter magic is, not least, about experiencing nature and enjoying unspoiled beauty.
Here you can enjoy a wealth of leisure activities and fantastic variety even without "skiing", because the wintery Wolfgangsee is the holiday destination for connoisseurs.
